Taste the Overberg

Goue Rif
Chardonnay
Amongst the windswept hills of the Overberg lies a mythical stretch of land so abundant and fertile, it’s referred to by locals as the “Goue Rif” - meaning golden ridge. While its precise location remains a mystery, every farmer is convinced it lies just beyond their neighbours’ fields.

Maartlelie
Grenache noir Rose
As the bright pink blooms of the Maartlelie appear in the Overberg it brings the promise of relief from the hot and dry summer past. Sonwater
Chenin blanc / Clairette Blanche
Sunlight and water, two powerful forces of nature beyond man's control. But, when favoured with the perfect balance, these two components create the essence of farming.
Sonwater is an expression of the gratitude experienced when this balance is found by capturing water and sunlight in the form of wine.
Sonwater 2023 was inspired by the famous 1960’s Lieberstein blend and consists of
90% Chenin Blanc and 10% Clairette Blanche.

WO: Western Cape

In 1671 the first van Niekerk set foot in the Cape of Good Hope. Cornelis van Niekerk, an 11-year-old Dutch boy, arrived with nothing more than the clothes on his back.
Years later, now a prosperous farmer, Cornelis and eight others took a stance against the Cape’s corrupt governor by refusing to sell their wine to the dishonest regime. Instead, they sold directly to passing ships at a much fairer price. This landed them in a Mauritian jail where Cornelis passed away - unjustly branded as one of “The 9 Rebellious Vrijboeren”.
His two sons picked up the pieces & through them the van Niekerk family legacy continued.

Stoppelland
Syrah
Named after the stubble fields that stretch across the Overberg at the end of the wheat harvest—a familiar sight that speaks of hard work, changing seasons, and the enduring rhythm of the land. Rooted in this landscape "Stoppelland" reflects the region's farming heritage and our family’s commitment to be custodians of the land
